Japan Folk Crafts Museum Osaka
The Osaka Museum of Japanese Arts and Crafts (Osaka Nihon Mingeikan) is a museum that exhibits folk crafts and opened in 1972. Examples of crafts include paintings, textiles and dye works, and wood/lacquer items. The museum handles items related to peoples and everyday life, making it approachable even for families with children. Inside are four distinct exhibition rooms, plus a courtyard and a shop. Each exhibition room has its own character, with spacious displays designed to highlight the pieces—for example, the First Exhibition Room aims for cohesive displays in which objects harmonize with each other. The shop gathers folk crafts from around Japan, offering a second layer of enjoyment after the exhibits. The courtyard is triangular and features jars and pots of varying sizes, along with a large camphor tree whose seasonal changes can be observed. Located within Expo ’70 Commemorative Park, it can be enjoyed together with nearby attractions such as the Japanese Garden and the National Museum of Ethnology, making for a rewarding day for anyone interested in crafts or folk culture.
