Tamade Shopping Street
Tamade Hondori Shopping Street is a shopping arcade located in Tamade, Nishinari Ward, Osaka, stretching approximately 230 meters from Kishinosato-Tamade Station to National Route 26. It is known as the birthplace of the Super Tamade discount supermarket chain. The arcade features confectionery shops, cafes, budget hotels, and retro children’s rides, creating a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. Historically, the area was developed in the 13th century and later became known for producing Katsuma pumpkin, a traditional Japanese squash that declined in cultivation by the 1930s. Efforts to revive traditional vegetables began in 2005 under Osaka Prefecture’s heritage vegetable program.
