Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium (EDION Arena)
Edion Arena Osaka (Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium) is a sports center where events such as volleyball, basketball, judo, and gymnastics can be held. It has a site area of 8,357 m², building area of 7,171 m², and total floor area of 28,318 m². Completed in 1987, it is a 4-story building with 2 basement levels. Facilities include the main arena (First Arena), a judo hall, kendo hall, and a multipurpose hall. Various classes are offered, from programs for preschoolers through junior high students to courses for adults and seniors. It is also used as a venue for major events such as the Grand Sumo March Tournament (Spring Basho), professional boxing and pro-wrestling, and B.League games. The location is excellent, near Namba—about 350 m from Exit 5 of the various Osaka Metro Namba stations. In 2015, electronics retailer EDION acquired naming rights, changing the name from Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium to “Edion Arena Osaka.” The naming-rights contract was extended in 2018 for five more years, continuing the name through 2023.
