Daido Life Insurance Head Office

The Daido Life Osaka Head Office is well known for its striking, high-impact appearance: the building narrows at the bottom and widens toward the top, giving it a visually bold, somewhat “top-heavy” look that stands out in the Higobashi area. Completed in 1993, it is a 19-story, 88-meter-tall building located at the Higobashi intersection where Tosabori-dori and Yotsubashi-suji meet, right by Osaka Metro Yotsubashi Line Higobashi Station. It was built as a replacement for the former head office designed by architect William Merrell Vories; the new design was handled by Ichiryu-sha Vories Architects (in the Vories lineage) together with Nikken Sekkei, and it received an Osaka Urban Architecture Scenic Award. The building also became more widely known through the NHK morning drama *Asa ga Kita*, making it one of Higobashi’s sightseeing spots. Inside, the 1st to 2nd floors form a large open atrium lobby, and on the 2nd floor there is a free exhibition corner where you can view items related to the Hirooka family.
