Osaka Station

Osaka Station was selected as one of the top 100 stations in Kinki, and is the station used by the most passengers in JR West. Osaka Station is located in the center of Umeda, Osaka's largest commercial and business district. From the station out eastward, many businesses occupy the area that make up most of the consumer traffic. Taking Umeda Station into consideration, many lines were made to converge and make this western Japan's largest terminal. In the past, overnight trains bound for the Tohoku, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Sanin regions would depart from here as well. However, overnight trains have been completely gotten rid of and are currently no longer running. Opened in 1874, Osaka Station used to be further west near the site of the old central Osaka post office, an old 2-story Gothic red-brick building. It is said that the area had few residences and were filled with fields. The original plans called for bay platforms and had the location in the neighborhood of Dojima, closer to urban areas, but things changed and as mentioned above, it was instead established in Umeda's Sonezaki. At the Midosuji Gate of Osaka Station is EAST COURT mido, with establishments like the premium supermarket, Ikari, a cafe, and delicatessen.
