Dojima Bridge
Dojima Ohashi is an arch bridge (two-hinged arch) completed in 1927 (Shōwa 2). It is 76.15 m long and 22.70 m wide, spanning the Dojima River. It is extremely close to Keihan Nakanoshima Line Nakanoshima Station: about 50 m from Exit 1 (roughly a 1-minute walk). On the south side are the Osaka International Convention Center and Nakanoshima Station. The first Dojima Kobashi was completed in 1877 (Meiji 10) and suffered major damage in the 1885 (Meiji 18) great flood; the current bridge was rebuilt in September 1927 as part of the city planning project “Nakanoshima 13 Line.” Its arch shape gives it a strong presence, and you can even see what appear to be scorch marks likely from damage during the June 1945 air raids, adding a sense of history. Renovation works took place from February 12, 2018 to January 31, 2020, and it is now possible to see the renewed bridge with secured passages for pedestrians, bicycles, and wheelchairs, as well as considerations for boat navigation routes.
