Nakanoshima Kosetsu Museum

Nakanoshima Kosetsu Museum of Art opened in 2018 as the second museum following the main building in Mikage, Higashinada Ward, Kobe. Located in a high-rise business district, it is directly connected to Exit 12 of Keihan Nakanoshima Line Watanabebashi Station, and is about a 15-minute walk from JR Osaka Station (Sakurabashi Exit). The museum’s theme draws on the tea-ceremony concept of “shichū no sankyo” (a mountain retreat within the city): creating a quiet, hermitage-like state of mind while staying in an urban setting. One highlight of the permanent exhibition is a full-scale, life-size reconstruction of the tea room “Gen’an,” originally from the nationally designated Important Cultural Property “Former Murayama Family Residence,” including the surrounding roji garden approach space. There is also a “Murayama Ryōhei Memorial Room,” which introduces Murayama’s life through valuable materials, a large chronology, and explanatory panels—allowing visitors to trace the history of Nakanoshima, known as the birthplace of the Asahi Shimbun.
