Nishiumeda Square
Nishi-Umeda Square is an open plaza located near the bus terminal. It is conveniently close to major stations—about a 1-minute walk from JR Osaka Station, Hankyu Umeda Station, and Nishi-Umeda Station—and it stands on the former site of the Osaka Post Office. A wide variety of events are held here, and during event periods the square becomes lively with crowds. Many of the events are food- and drink-related, such as beer festivals and regional gourmet fairs. In summer, it may also be used as a beer garden. In general, the space can be enjoyed free of charge, although food and drink purchases during events are paid. Admission is also free, and when no events are being held, it can be used as a relaxing public space. Because a large mural stands out, it is easy to recognize the location as Nishi-Umeda Square. Across the square you can also find venues such as the Shiki Theatre Company’s theater and jazz live houses, making Nishi-Umeda Square a fitting symbol of Osaka’s event culture.
