Hibusetoki Shrine

Hibose Toki Shrine is enshrined on the west side within the grounds of Ikasuri Shrine (Zamma Shrine). The enshrined deities are Ōsue-no-Kami and Kagutsuchi-no-Kami. The shrine was formerly located in 1-chome Utsubominamidoori, Nishi Ward, but was moved to its current location around the end of the Meiji era due to road expansion associated with streetcar construction. The area around the former site was once known as a pottery wholesaler district, with about 200 pottery shops lining the west side from Sujikaibashi to Yotsubashi. For this reason, Hibose Toki Shrine was cherished as a guardian deity for pottery merchants and as a god of protection from fire. The ceramic lanterns that remain in the precinct today were also moved here when the shrine relocated. In addition, many decorative plates donated by ceramic artists from across Japan are displayed on the ceilings of the worship hall. Every year, the Osaka Setomono Festival, held alongside the summer festival of Ikasuri Shrine, features events such as a memorial service for tea bowls and a large bargain market with booths run by pottery shops and ceramic artists, drawing large crowds. The nearest station is Honmachi Station on the Osaka Metro, about a 2-minute walk away.
