Asahi Breweries Suita Plant

Asahi Beer Suita Brewery is a historic plant with a 125-year legacy, originally founded in 1891 as the “Suita-mura Brewery” of Osaka Beer Company (the predecessor of Asahi Breweries). Known as the birthplace of Asahi Beer, the site covers 146,000㎡—about four times the size of Koshien Stadium—and still preserves buildings from the early days of operation on its expansive grounds. Established in November 1889, Osaka Beer Company set out to brew Japan’s first full-scale domestic beer by importing authentic German techniques to compete with the popular imported beers of the era. The company chose Suita, where clean spring water was abundant, and built a modern brewing system capable of producing 1.2 million bottles per year. Sales of Asahi Beer began in May 1892; it became so popular that it immediately ran short, and in October of the same year it won a Second Class Silver Medal at the Osaka Prefectural Industrial Products Exhibition. Today, the Suita Brewery is Asahi’s only brewery in the Kansai region, producing products such as “Super Dry,” Japan’s first dry beer. The brewery also offers reservation-based factory tours.
