Opened in 2001 for the purpose of researching and spreading the history of Osaka, Osaka Museum of History, is situated on top of the ruins of Naniwa Nagara-Toyosaki Palace which itself has over 1350 years of history. You can even see the remains from the basement floor. On the second floor is the Discovery Center, where information regarding history is collected for learning purposes, while the sixth floor is the Special Exhibitions Hall. Floors 7~10 are permanent exhibitions based on the concept of "the city of Osaka," making use of graphics, images, and information terminals to convey the history of Osaka. Visitors may use the elevator to go up and down the 10 floors. On the 10th floor is a 70cm vermillion pillar that is a full-size rescontruction of a column from the council hall of Naniwa Palace during the Nara period. The 9th floor showcases the transition of Osaka during the Muromachi to Edo periods. You can see a full-size recreation of the excavation of Naniwa Palace on the 8th floor. The 7th floor depicts "The Age of Greater Osaka," and circumstances from the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa Era.
