Namba Nannan

NAMBA Nannan is an underground shopping arcade located in Namba 5-chome, Chuo Ward, Osaka City. Following its transition to private company management on April 1, 2018, it has been operated and managed by Osaka Chikagai Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Osaka Metro (Osaka Municipal Subway). Originally opened in 1957 as “Namba Underground Center,” the first underground shopping street in Osaka, NAMBA Nannan is widely regarded as a pioneer of Osaka’s underground malls. In 1974, it underwent a full renovation and was rebranded as “Namba Nannan Town,” shifting its concept from a simple underground arcade to a highly convenient, station-adjacent shopping destination that people would want to stop by every day. In 2006, it was renamed NAMBA Nannan and completed its second major renovation. In addition, in 2010, it became possible to receive One-Seg TV broadcasts as well as AM and FM radio signals within the underground mall. Today, NAMBA Nannan is home to 69 tenant shops and is organized into three distinct zones: “Yosoi (Fashion),” featuring apparel and lifestyle goods; “Yorozu (Daily Goods),” offering cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and everyday items; and “Shoku (Dining),” dedicated to food and restaurants. At the center of the arcade, a fragrance system releases seasonal scents throughout the space, creating a pleasant atmosphere that enhances the overall shopping experience.
