Tsutenkaku Hondori Shopping Street

The Tsutenkaku Hondori Shopping Association is a shopping street at the foot of Tsutenkaku Tower. It stretches from right outside Exit 3 of Ebisucho Station on the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line toward Tsutenkaku, with many shops lining both the east and west sides. The street is about 200 meters long. It flourished from around 1912 under the name “Ebisudori,” and in 1956, with the rebuilding of the second Tsutenkaku, it was renamed “Tsutenkaku Hondori.” The area is lively with many eateries as well as retail shops, attracting locals and tourists alike. The sidewalks on both sides have arcade roofing, so it’s comfortable even on rainy days. While close to Shinsekai, it has a slightly different atmosphere, with a retro vibe that evokes the mid-Showa era. In recent years, more SNS-friendly photo spots have appeared, and events such as the “world’s longest engadai shogi tournament” are also held.
