Birthplace of the Osaka Prefectural Trade Vocational Schools

The “Birthplace of Osaka Prefectural Trade Specialized School” is marked by two stone monuments located in front of the exhibition building “Mydome Osaka,” next to the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. One monument reads “Birthplace of Osaka Prefectural Trade Specialized School,” and the other reads “Former Osaka Prefectural Trade Hall.” The site is about 500 meters northwest of Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line Tanimachi 4-chome Station, in a busy business district where many office workers pass by. The school was created to train international business personnel that were in short supply after the war, established in 1948 as the “Osaka Higher Trade Training Institute.” It later became the Osaka Prefectural Trade Specialized School and moved to Tezukayama (the former site of Osaka Women’s University). Over roughly 50 years until it closed in March 2004, it produced about 2,200 graduates. As private-sector education institutions developed, the role of a prefectural school ended, and these monuments were erected to commemorate its achievements.
