Tempozan Ferry Landing
Tempozan Ferry Terminal is a municipal ferry pier located west of Tempozan Port, about a 10-minute walk from Osaka Port Station (Osaka Metro Chuo Line) and about a 5-minute walk from Kaiyukan Aquarium. It connects Tempozan (Minato Ward) with Sakurajima (Konohana Ward). The sailing distance is about 400 meters and the ride takes roughly 3 minutes. In a “water city” like Osaka, ferries have historically been an important means of transport, but over time their number has decreased and today only eight ferry routes remain—Tempozan is one of them. The ferry terminal opened in 1905 (Meiji 38). Usage declined after the completion of Tempozan Pier in 1922 (Taishō 11), and routes were reduced, but it continues to operate today. Nowadays it is often used as a convenient way for people traveling from Tempozan toward Universal Studios Japan, and the fact that it is free is a major advantage. Even though it’s just a short 3-minute crossing, it offers a pleasant mini-cruise feeling with bay-area views from the water, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists.
