Hiroshima City Central Library
Hiroshima City Central Library is a library located within Hiroshima City Central Park in Hiroshima City. It opened in 1931 as the Hiroshima City Asano Library, then changed its name to Hiroshima City Central Library in 1974 and was newly built at its current location. What makes it different from a typical library is the Hiroshima Materials Room, which houses resources related to the atomic bombing and peace. On the first floor there is a café and a cafeteria, allowing you to enjoy the library together with Hiroshima City Central Park for an entire day. You can borrow books and read in the café, or read in the park. Families can also enjoy spending the whole day here. Hiroshima City Central Park has been selected as one of the 100 Best Historical Parks in Japan and also among the 100 Best Urban Landscapes, and its many trees help you feel the seasons. Being able to read your favorite book in that natural setting makes it popular with book lovers. You can also reserve books online in advance, so you do not have to spend time searching once you arrive. To get to Hiroshima City Central Library, take the streetcar from Hiroshima Station for about 10 minutes, get off at "Kamiya-cho Nishi," and walk about 3 minutes.
