Asa Zoological Park

Asa Zoological Park is a zoo about 50 minutes by bus from JR Hiroshima Station. It is home to about 160 species. Highlights include "Piichiku Park," where you can interact with goats, mini pigs, sheep, and more; the roughly 5 m-high "Giraffe Terrace," where you can view giraffes at about face height; and one of Japan’s largest zebra areas with around 15 animals. Various events are held mainly on weekends, such as pony rides on Saturdays/Sundays/holidays, a backyard guide tour on Saturdays, and lion feeding on Sundays. Because the grounds are large, families with small children may want to rent a stroller, and older visitors may consider renting an electric senior cart at the information desk. There is a cafeteria, but on nice days it’s also recommended to picnic at the "Picnic Plaza" with a packed lunch. The shop also sells collaboration goods with the local pro baseball team, the Hiroshima Toyo Carp.
