Ekie Shopping Plaza & Food Court
ekie is a commercial complex directly connected to JR Hiroshima Station, with about 130 shops. It opened in phases starting in 2017 and fully opened in 2019. It is divided into areas such as ekie KITCHEN, ekie DINING, ekie Omiyage-kan (souvenir hall), Ekie Bar, and Zakka Marche. Inside ekie DINING, which contains 24 restaurants, there is "Hiroshima Buchiuma-dori," a collection of famous Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki shops and other eateries ("buchiuma" is Hiroshima dialect meaning "very delicious"), letting you casually enjoy local food. At "Ekiben Saisai" in the souvenir hall, you might try taking out Miyajima’s famous Ueno "anago-meshi" (conger eel rice) bento as a Shinkansen travel companion. Nationally well-known souvenirs like Nishikido’s momiji manju and Hattendo’s cream buns are also sold, so if you forgot to buy souvenirs, it’s a convenient stop. ekie KITCHEN also sells prepared foods across Japanese, Western, and Chinese styles, making it easy to take food back to your hotel room.
