Ninoshima

Ninoshima is an island in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Floating in Setouchi, Ninoshima is the largest island among Hiroshima City’s islands. As of 2018, its population was 797. The island has a mountain called Aki-Kofuji with an elevation of 278 meters, offering views over Hiroshima’s city area. Due to the island’s unique terrain, it has little flat land and many slopes. With a nature lodge and Ninoshima Seaside Park featuring athletic equipment and a pool, it is often used for children’s clubs and school events. The sea is also beautiful, and the beach sand is clean, making it very popular with children. The island’s circumference is about 10 kilometers, and it is possible to walk all the way around, so some people come for walking. There are no traffic lights and no shops, so be sure to buy food and drinks in advance before you go. It is also possible to rent bicycles and tour the island. War-related remains such as ammunition depot ruins and the remains of a horse quarantine station incinerator are also still there.
