Raisanyoshi Historical Museum
The Rai Sanyo Historical Museum is a museum in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture that displays materials related to Rai Sanyo and the Rai family. The main attraction is the nationally designated historic site "Rai Sanyo Living Quarters," and the single-story exhibition building includes a tea room and a garden. With Rai Sanyo as the focus, the museum houses cultural and historical materials related to Hiroshima in the Edo period. About four times a year, it also holds special exhibitions such as "modern swords" and "hina dolls." The reconstructed room where Rai Sanyo was confined and is said to have written Nihon Gaishi, along with the small courtyard garden in front of it, can be viewed for free. The building itself is an atomic-bombed structure. In the garden, there is a kurogane-mochi tree that sprouted in the fifth year after the bombing; it is now about 5 meters tall. To get to the Rai Sanyo Historical Museum, it takes about 25 minutes by streetcar from Hiroshima Station. There is also free parking, though limited to four spaces. Nearby are Fukuromachi Park, the Fukuromachi Elementary School Peace Museum, and the Atomic Bomb Dome, making it a popular area for many tourists. There are also many okonomiyaki restaurants, and many visitors come to enjoy a sightseeing route that includes touring museums and related sites from morning through the day.
