Hiroshima Kanazawa Shopping Street
Hiroshima Kanayama-cho Shopping Street is a shopping arcade in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Known as "Kanayama-gai," it is familiar and beloved among Hiroshima residents. Located in the heart of Hiroshima City, it is a rare case where large retailers and long-established local businesses stand side by side and coexist, and it is used by great numbers of people every day. From retro coffee shops and stores to big-name retailers popular with young people such as Tokyu Hands and PARCO, the shopping street that connects these large stores is covered by a glass crystal arcade, making it a major attraction that you can enjoy without worrying about the weather. It is close to Peace Memorial Park, surrounded by streetcar lines, and has excellent access, making it Hiroshima’s largest shopping street. There are also eateries serving Hiroshima specialties such as okonomiyaki, offering a glimpse into everyday life in Hiroshima. Many people also come from nearby prefectures in search of a more urban experience. It is also a venue for events such as a lion dance in January and the Yukata de Kin-sai festival, where many citizen events are held with a yukata theme. To get to Hiroshima Kanayama-cho Shopping Street, get off at "Tatemachi" on the Hiroshima Electric Railway and walk about 4 minutes.
