Heiwa Bridge

Peace Bridge is a bridge in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. It forms a pair with West Peace Bridge, which is located slightly to the west. Located within Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the original bridge was lost due to the atomic bombing and was rebuilt in 1952. Its distinctive design was created by Isamu Noguchi, who designed both Peace Bridge and West Peace Bridge. An explanatory sign describes how Japanese American artist Isamu Noguchi designed the bridges based on various ideas and principles. On the day of the atomic bombing, many survivors came to the Motoyasu River by Peace Bridge seeking water, drank from it, and then died in the Motoyasu River. For this reason, a lantern-floating ceremony is held on August 6. From the Motoyasu River pier, scheduled boats for the Hiroshima World Heritage Route and the Hiroshima River Cruise operate, allowing you to travel to places such as the Atomic Bomb Dome and Miyajima. To reach Peace Bridge, it is a short walk from the Hiroshima Electric Railway "Chuden-mae" or "Fukuromachi" stops. Because you transfer from JR Hiroshima Station to the Hiroshima Electric Railway, it is easy to understand.
