Motoujina Park
Moto-Ujina Park is an urban park in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Most of Moto-Ujina Park is designated as a Special Zone of the Setonaikai National Park. With sandy beaches and views across the sea to Setouchi’s islands, it is also a beautiful coastal spot. Moto-Ujina is a tied island (land-tied island), so it is surrounded by the sea on almost all sides. Inside the park, there is a broadleaf evergreen primeval forest, and while people come for swimming in summer, anglers visit all year round. It is also popular as a cycling spot, and circling the tied island by bicycle is a well-known sightseeing activity. In nature-rich Moto-Ujina Park, children come to the sea and trees in search of nature, playing as they look for insects found around Moto-Ujina. There is also the white Ujina Lighthouse, and beside it stands a camphor tree said to be about 300 years old—definitely worth seeing. The beach sand is also white and beautiful. Learning about Moto-Ujina’s history while viewing its sea cliffs is also a great idea. The sight of the sun setting into the sea from Moto-Ujina Park is sometimes said to be the most beautiful in Hiroshima. To get to Moto-Ujina Park, take the streetcar from Hiroshima Station, get off at "Moto-Ujina-guchi," then walk 30 minutes.
