Higashisenda Park
Higashi Senda Park is a park built on the former site of Hiroshima University’s main campus. Within the park, the former Hiroshima University Faculty of Science Building No. 1—an atomic-bombed structure—still remains today. Due to deterioration, it is not possible to enter, but discussions are being held toward maintaining it. As a green, tree-filled park in the middle of the city, it is used by many people, including children. There are also children’s playgrounds, a row of metasequoia trees from the former university grounds, and many planted trees, and the lawn-covered open space is loved as a place to relax. Next door is the Urban East Senda shopping mall, and it is lively with shoppers taking breaks and families visiting together. Inside the park as well, within CLiP HIROSHIMA (Hiroshima Toyopet), there are cafés and workshops, making it popular with young families. It is also popular as a barbecue spot. There is no parking, so you will need to use public transportation or a bicycle. To get to Higashi Senda Park, it is about a 4-minute walk from "Takanobashi" on the Hiroshima Electric Railway.
