Kamiyacho
Kamiyacho is a district located in Hiroshima’s Naka Ward, situated south of the Kamiyacho Intersection where Aioi-dori and Rijo-dori streets cross. In common usage, however, the term "Kamiyacho" often refers more broadly to the entire area surrounding this intersection.
The district functions as Hiroshima’s financial and business center, with numerous bank and securities company branches. It is also home to major public facilities such as Hiroshima Central Park and the Hiroshima Prefectural Sports Center, as well as prominent tourist attractions including the Atomic Bomb Dome. Large commercial complexes like Sogo Hiroshima and Edion Hiroshima Main Store further enhance its role as a multifunctional urban core combining business, tourism, and shopping. Beneath Kamiyacho Intersection lies Kamiyacho Shareo, an underground shopping mall and parking facility developed under the leadership of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. This underground hub directly connects streetcars, buses, and the Astram Line, making transportation extremely convenient. Access to Kamiyacho Intersection is immediate from either "Kamiyacho-nishi" or "Kamiyacho-higashi" stops on the Hiroshima Electric Railway.
