Futabayama Peace Tower
The Futabayama Peace Pagoda is a Buddhist relic stupa located on Mount Futaba in Hiroshima City. It was built in 1966 to pray for the happiness of humanity, lasting world peace without war, and for the repose of the souls of the atomic bomb victims. Inside the pagoda are one Buddha relic sent from India, one Buddha relic sent from Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka), and one Buddha relic gifted by Mongolian Buddhists. Because it is located on the mountain, you can look out over Hiroshima City. The pagoda is visible in the mountains on the north side of Hiroshima Station. To get to the Futabayama Peace Pagoda, it is about a 25-minute walk from Hiroshima Station, making it an easy hike-like outing. Passing through Hiroshima Toshogu Shrine and walking along the trail, you will reach Konko Inari Shrine, where many red torii gates stand in a row. Continue onward and you will arrive at the Futabayama Peace Pagoda. Since it is a mountain path, be sure to go in sneakers. There is also a park at the summit. Along the way, Taiyo no Iwa (Sun Rock) is also popular as a power spot and is loved by tourists and local residents alike.
