Ogonzan Mountain

Mount Ogonzan is a 221.7-meter-high mountain in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Because its shape resembles Mount Fuji, it is also called "Ogon Fuji" and is familiar to people in Hiroshima. In the Muromachi period, Niho Castle stood on the summit, making it a mountain with deep historical ties. Along the mountain road, about 500 cherry trees have been planted, and it is also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot. From the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Hiroshima City, and at night many couples come to see the night scenery. However, traffic restrictions are in place from 23:00 to 5:00, so be sure to pay attention to the hours of use. Hiroshima Ohashi Bridge and Kaita Ohashi Bridge are illuminated, creating a night view that can enchant anyone, not only young people. Its height is also just right, so many hikers visit as well. There is also a legend about Mount Ogonzan: if you dig at the base of a nandina plant with white berries, you will find koban gold coins. The summit has been developed as a nature park called "Ogonzan Green Area," with an observation deck, toilets, and a rest house. To get to Mount Ogonzan, take a bus for about 20 minutes from Hiroshima Station.
