JR West Miyajima Ferry
JR West Miyajima Ferry is a ferry that connects Honshu and Miyajima in about 10 minutes. The fare is reasonable at 180 yen one-way for adults and 90 yen one-way for children. A popular option is the "Great Torii Route," which passes near the large torii gate—an iconic symbol of Itsukushima Shrine—at the same fare.
The ferries in service are the "Nanaura-maru," "Miyajima-maru," and "Misen-maru," each with a capacity of 800 passengers. All have barrier-free seating and are designed with safety in mind. In addition to indoor seating, they feature amenities such as ocean-view observation decks, allowing you to enjoy the scenery during the crossing. On weekends and holidays during the daytime, an increased-service timetable operates at 10-minute intervals. Given the 800-passenger capacity, it is fair to say you will rarely have to wait long. There are also special schedules for year-end/New Year periods and fireworks events, making it possible to enjoy Miyajima around seasonal festivities. The JR West Miyajima Ferry terminal is about a 6-minute walk from JR Miyajimaguchi Station. If traveling by car, you can use nearby parking lots.
