Miyajima Ropeway
By using the Miyajima Ropeway, you can ride up close to the summit area of Mount Misen (Misen), which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
First, head from Momijidani Station—about a 6-minute walk from Itsukushima Shrine—to Kayatani Station. The ride takes about 10 minutes on an automatic circulating ropeway with an 8-person capacity and departures about every 1 minute. Next, transfer at Kayatani Station and ride to Shishiiwa Station. This segment takes about 4 minutes on an aerial tramway (back-and-forth system) with a 30-person capacity and departures about every 15 minutes. From Shishiiwa Station, it is about a 30-minute walk to the "Misen Observatory" at the summit area. Along the way, you can sightsee at spots such as "Misen Hondō," "Reikadō," and "Sanki-dō." If you hike up on foot without using the ropeway, the climb takes about two hours. Access to Miyajima Ropeway Momijidani Station: about 26 minutes on foot from Miyajima Pier if walking all the way; or, you can walk 16 minutes to the Momijidani Park entrance and take the free shuttle bus for 3 minutes. The free shuttle bus runs about every 20 minutes.
