The Experience
Back Alleys and Under Overpasses! Fukushima Night Gourmet Tour
Known mostly for office buildings, Fukushima has in recent years become a competitive ground for delicious restaurants, as more and more continue to open up in the area. Situated under an overpass here is Fukumaru Dori 57, a place where all the restaurants have outdoor seating. You can tell how lively the area is from a single glance!
Even though Fukushima is only one station away from Umeda, there are rarely any foreigners. Unlike Umeda and Namba, the area is still unknown to tourists.
With that said, we’d like to show you around so that you too can see why Fukushima is loved by locals. Let’s take a look at what’s on the menu!
1st Stop (Meat)
▼Beef tongue Izakaya
Tongue may not be so popular overseas, but Japanese people love it, especially beef tongue! Usually it’s grilled, but this place is an izakaya that specializes in beef tongue, so they prepare it many different ways. If you’re up for it, this is a great place to try the dish out.
▼Beef tongue yukke (Left), Thick-cut tongue steak (Right)
▼ Of course, it pairs well with the drinks.
2nd Stop (Seafood)
After all the meat, next up is fresh fish, and local foods.
Having gotten things started at the first place, we’re going to take you somewhere even more local, where you’re sure to have a good time!
▼ From fresh sashimi to original creations, this place has a lot of variety!
There are lots of original and regional cuisines in Japanese izakayas, so feel free to ask your guide about them. It’s a great chance to give them a try too.
▼A local dish of Osaka, “doteyaki.” It has a stronger flavor, so it goes perfectly with the alcohol!
3rd Stop (Standing Bar)
For the 3rd stop, we’ll go to a standing bar, or tachinomiya in Japanese. Standing bars are popular and there are quite a few in Japan. Because there are no chairs, you’re closer to the staff and other customers. There’s a more fun atmosphere here.
▼There are also tables outside, so it’s great for when the weather’s nice out!
▼The inside's like this, everyone gathered around the counter. See how close everyone is?
Maybe the best part about tachinomiya, friendly conversation with random strangers.
▼Kanpai〜!
Did you watch the video at the beginning? As you can see there, this is a gourmet barhopping tour where you drink, eat, drink, and eat! XD
Let’s go for a stroll together in Fukushima, an authentic area that’s perfect for foodies. A local guide is waiting to join you for fun times and good eats ♪
