Ujinahatoba Park
Ujina Hatoba Park is a park in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and one of the facilities that make up Minato Oasis Hiroshima. Popular with a wide range of ages as a seaside park, one of its highlights is being able to see ships entering Hiroshima Port up close. When large vessels arrive, a welcome ceremony may even be held nearby. The park features the Paradise Tower, which became a symbol of the 1989 Sea and Island Expo, as well as a monument to the former Japanese National Railways Ujina Line and a memorial marker for the remains of the former Army military pier. Centered around a grassy lawn plaza, it also has benches, and next door there is now a stylish commercial facility created by repurposing port warehouses. Along with the Miyajima Underwater Fireworks Festival held in August, the Hiroshima Minato Yume Fireworks Festival held in July is one of Hiroshima’s two major fireworks events—and because it takes place at Ujina Hatoba Park, this park becomes a prime viewing spot. Also, once a year, when the tall ships Nippon Maru and Kaiwo Maru call at port, the Sail Training Ship Festa Hiroshima is held. To get to Ujina Hatoba Park, take streetcar line 5 bound for Hiroshima Port for about 40 minutes.
