Kohtei is the art pavilion built on the grounds of Shinshoji Zen Temple. With a total length of 46 meters the foundation of the impressive Kohtei is laid out in stone and gravel, with a massive ship-shaped pavilion on top, creating a floating illusion. What awaits you inside is a fusion of contemporary art with the traditional Zen - a truly unique collaboration.
Exhibit dedicated to Hakuin Ekaku with over 200 items
The exhibit features countless texts and paintings by Hakuin Ekaku, whose goal was to spread the Zen Buddhist teachings. Out of the 200+ items there are 30-40 items rotating on display.
Zazen, Sutra tracing
The seated meditation focuses on controlling your breathing and with that, your heart and mind. An empty heart, devoid of worldly desires and worries is truly at peace.
By focusing solely on copying the Sutras you let go of the chaos and turmoil that plague your mind on a daily basis.
Due to prolonged maintenace of the "Stone Bath", only the "Cypress Bath" is currently available.

Cuisine and tea
You can enjoy authentic udon noodles eaten by the monk Unsui at the training dojo of the Rinzai sect.
Enjoy a cup of green tea while taking a break or silently contemplating the Zen gardens.
