Fukubijin Sake Brewery
Fukubijin Shuzo is a sake brewery in Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Fukubijin’s renowned sake is said to have a rounded, full-bodied richness while finishing clean and crisp, making it easy to enjoy without growing tired of it—an excellent choice for sake lovers. The brewery has two kura storehouses, Ebisu-gura and Daikoku-gura, and at Ebisu-gura—recognized by its 27-meter-tall chimney—visits are always welcome and can be enjoyed freely. Inside, you can see displays such as labels, calligraphy boards from past prime ministers, and sake barrels for Carp-taru fundraising. Paid tastings are also available, so be careful not to drink too much. Of course, you can purchase bottles to take home, so if you plan to taste, be sure not to drive. It is also popular as the Saijo Sake Brewery School, known as a place where delicious sake can be made. Once a year, the town hosts a Sake Festival centered around Saijo Central Park and Saijo Sakagura-dori, turning it into a community-wide celebration. There is plenty of sake, of course, but the festival is also popular with non-drinkers and children thanks to many food stalls and events. To get to Fukubijin Shuzo, it is an 8-minute walk from Saijo Station on the JR Sanyo Main Line.
