Hiroshima Prefectual Art Museum
Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum is a long-established museum that marked its 50th anniversary in 2018. It is located next to Shukkei-en Garden, one of Hiroshima’s signature sightseeing spots. Visitors can enjoy views of the garden from the museum’s lobby and rest areas, and there is also a discount program for those who visit both the museum and Shukkei-en. The museum holds a collection of more than 5,000 works, with a particular focus on art from the 1920s–1930s. Notable pieces include the Important Cultural Properties "Imari Polychrome Floral Lobed Bowl" and "Itsukushima Scene Folding Screen." The collection also features works by Hiroshima-related artists such as Ikuo Hirayama, Aimitsu, and Katsuzo Entsuba, as well as folk crafts and Asian textiles, dyeing and weaving, and metalwork. Famous works include Isamu Noguchi’s "Recollection" and Salvador Dali’s "Venus’s Dream." The museum hosts about six special exhibitions each year, often accompanied by lectures and concerts. Access is convenient: it is about 20 meters from "Shukkeien-mae" stop on the Hiroshima Electric Railway Hakushima Line, or via the Hiroshima Meipuru-pu sightseeing bus by getting off at "Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum."
