Shirarahama Beach
Shirarahama Beach is one of the Kansai region’s leading beaches. The place name "Shirarahama" is said to originate from this beach, and it has been selected for the Ministry of the Environment’s "100 Best Bathing Beaches" list. Shirarahama is a white-sand shoreline stretching about 620 m, and it hosts many events throughout the year, including the "Shirahama Fireworks Festival" and "Shirahama Fireworks Display" in summer, and "Countdown Fireworks" around New Year’s. Beyond swimming, the surrounding area is packed with sightseeing spots, so many visitors stay overnight. There are over 20 distinctive hotels and ryokan where you can relax, as well as famous hot springs such as "Saki-no-Yu," an open-air bath (swimsuit required) that draws from its source. Along the coast, you’ll find plenty of dining options to savor fresh seafood—from calm Japanese restaurants to lively barbecue-style spots. Shirarahama Beach is reachable by public transportation: take the JR Kinokuni Line to "Shirahama Station," then ride a Meiko Bus for about 15 minutes to the "Shirarahama" bus stop. The beach entrance is right in front of the stop, so you won’t get lost on the way to the shore.
