Shibuya Crossing
Shibuya Scramble Crossing—officially “Shibuya Station Front Crossing”—is one of the world’s most famous intersections, said to see up to about 3,000 people cross on a single green light. When the signal turns green, crowds surge from all directions yet flow past each other smoothly, a scene that’s normal to many Japanese but iconic to international visitors as a symbol of Japan’s orderliness. Since the 21st century, it has also become known as a gathering place on big nights like New Year’s Eve, Halloween, and days of high-profile sports matches. This phenomenon emerged naturally, and its exact starting point isn’t clearly known, but it has become another signature “Shibuya” scene as a trendsetting district. Access: about 1 minute on foot from Shibuya Station (JR, Tokyo Metro, Tokyu, Keio lines).
