Wood Egg Okonomiyaki Museum
WoodEgg Okonomiyaki Museum is a five-story building standing 29 meters tall. Operated by Otafuku Sauce, it is a unique facility combining a museum where visitors can learn about the history and culture of okonomiyaki and okonomiyaki sauce with hands-on cooking classes. Nearby is the Otafuku Sauce headquarters factory. Otafuku Sauce is Japan’s leading sauce manufacturer by market share and is especially popular in western Japan. True to its name, WoodEgg is constructed primarily of wood and resembles a giant egg in appearance. The distinctive architecture was designed by Hiroshi Sambuichi’s architectural firm, known for works such as Orizuru Tower and the Mount Misen Observatory on Miyajima. Inside the museum, a recreated okonomiyaki shop from the late 1950s to early 1960s era is on display, along with a collection of "Otafuku" dolls that inspired the company name. Okonomiyaki cooking classes and factory tours require advance reservations, so be sure to book ahead. If reservations are unavailable, visitors can try OKOSTA near JR Hiroshima Station, where okonomiyaki classes are also offered. OKOSTA additionally provides Muslim-friendly and vegetarian okonomiyaki options.
