Omishima Ferry Co., Ltd.
Omishima Ferry Co., Ltd. operates ferries connecting Tadanoumi Port (Takehara City, Hiroshima) with Okunoshima’s Second Pier, and with Sakari Port (Omishima, Imabari City, Ehime). Travel time is about 15 minutes from Tadanoumi to Okunoshima, and also about 15 minutes from Okunoshima to Sakari. The ferry has a passenger capacity of 300, and bicycles can be carried for 120 yen one way. Okunoshima is known as “Rabbit Island,” with the whole island functioning as a resort centered on Kyukamura, and with 900+ rabbits living there; however, it also has a Poison Gas Museum because it once hosted poison gas production facilities during World War II. Because Omishima is on the Shimanami Kaido route, you can also use this ferry as a shortcut for cycling. Omishima sits roughly around the midpoint of the ~70 km Shimanami Kaido cycling course and is home to Oyamazumi Shrine, which holds about 80% of Japan’s nationally designated important arms and armor artifacts, including National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties.
