Hiroshima Kagura Performance Stage

Hiroshima Kagura Regular Performances are shows where you can enjoy "Hiroshima Kagura" at the Hiroshima Prefectural Citizens Culture Center. Kagura is a Shinto ritual performing art of songs and dances offered to the gods, and in Hiroshima Prefecture it is enjoyed by a wide range of people from children to adults, with about 300 kagura troupes active across the prefecture. Despite being a traditional performing art, many young people also play leading roles in kagura, and some people begin Hiroshima Kagura after being drawn in by the flamboyant costumes and stage makeup. Differences in dance styles and costumes between troupes are also a key highlight, and in the Hiroshima Kagura Regular Performances, multiple troupes take turns presenting Hiroshima Kagura. It is said to be popular not only with Japanese tourists but also with overseas visitors interested in Japanese traditional performing arts. Normally, performances are held every week from April to December each year, but this year all performances from April to September were canceled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, performances are being live-streamed online without an audience, allowing you to enjoy Hiroshima Kagura at home.
