The First Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium

The Former Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium is located in central Hiroshima Prefecture, with excellent access and nearby sightseeing spots such as the Atomic Bomb Dome. In 1957, it became the only baseball stadium in the Chugoku region to install night-game lighting, which was rare at the time. It was the former home stadium of the hugely popular Hiroshima Toyo Carp, and even today it is regarded as a "sacred place" among Carp fans, drawing visitors from across Japan. Not only professional baseball, but also high school baseball games were held here, so many people likely have personal memories tied to the venue. Although beloved by Hiroshima residents, the stadium’s role ended in September 2010 due to aging facilities and an ordinance established in 2010 to abolish the stadium. Demolition work began the following year, but part of the right-field stands was preserved as a "symbol of postwar reconstruction." Today, the wide space is reportedly used as a venue for a wide range of events, from international gatherings to everyday local activities. When visiting, be sure to check event information as well.
