Peace Boulevard
Peace Boulevard is an approximately 4-kilometer-long avenue stretching from the eastern end of Tsurumi Bridge to the western end of Shin-Koi Bridge. With a width of 100 meters, it is also known as the "100-Meter Road."
Originally constructed during World War II as a firebreak to protect against air raids, the boulevard was created by demolishing surrounding buildings to form a wide firebreak zone. After the war, it became a major arterial road and green space that supported Hiroshima’s recovery and growth, while also serving as a symbol of the city’s commitment to lasting world peace. Trees donated from across Japan line Peace Boulevard, alongside monuments and sculptures dedicated to peace. It serves as a place of relaxation where locals jog or practice radio exercises, and as a daily route for commuting and school travel. At the same time, it is a key thoroughfare for tourists visiting Peace Memorial Park and is frequently used for victory parades celebrating championships by the Hiroshima Carp and Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Access to Peace Boulevard is via a 7-minute walk from Dobashi Station on the Hiroshima Electric Railway.
