Ryujin Onsen

Ryujin Onsen is a hot spring village located within Koya-Ryujin Quasi-National Park along the Hidaka River. It is famous as one of Japan’s "Three Beautifying Hot Springs" alongside Kawanishi Onsen in Gunma and Yunokawa Onsen in Shimane. The water is a sodium bicarbonate spring, known for leaving skin moisturized and smooth, and it is also recommended for those with sensitivity to cold or stiff shoulders because it warms the body thoroughly. The source-flowing main bath (Ryujin Onsen Motoyu) has both a cypress bath and a rock bath indoors; the open-air bath can be enjoyed while looking out at the valley stream during daylight, and at night while gazing at the stars as if wrapped in nature. To reach Ryujin Village, get off at JR Kisei Main Line "Kii-Tanabe Station," then take the Ryujin Bus and get off at the "Ryujin Onsen" stop—it's right there. This Ryujin Bus line also connects to "Kisetsukyo" (a scenic gorge with seasonal beauty) and "Binchotan Park" (linked to the origins of binchotan charcoal), making it possible to explore the area by public transport. It’s easy to visit as a day trip, and there are many lodging options too—so you can choose a stay that matches your preferred cuisine and atmosphere.
