Road Station Tanabe City Ryujin Gomasan Sky Tower
Roadside Station Tanabe City Ryujin Gomadan Sky Tower is located about halfway along National Route 371, the "Koya-Ryujin Skyline." The 33-meter-tall observation tower was designed in reference to historical facts about Mt. Gomadan and has a distinctive shape resembling stacked gomagi (wooden prayer sticks). From the observatory you can enjoy spectacular views of seasonal nature, the islands of the Kii Channel, and on clear days even the Shikoku Mountains—one of the reasons this spot is so popular. The facility also has a shop and a restaurant, making it lively with visitors such as those coming to Ryujin Onsen. At the Restaurant Tenku, tourists rave about dishes that actively use local ingredients, including the reservation-required "Kaiseki-style Lunch Plate," and a "Taro Cheesecake" made with sticky, flavorful taro grown in Ryujin Village. Ryujin Village is also known for its long-standing handmade flavors; many traditional preserved foods with good shelf life are lined up for sale, so you won’t have trouble choosing souvenirs in Ryujin. Access: From JR Kisei Main Line "Kii-Tanabe Station," take the Ryujin Bus and get off at "Gomadanzan"—it’s right in front.
