Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewery Museum

The Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewery Museum is a corporate museum operated by Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewing Co., Ltd. in Higashinada Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, themed around “learning the origins of sake brewing.” It exhibits more than 500 items designated as Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties of Japan. Access is about a 2-minute walk from Naka-Fukae (Minami-Uozaki) Station on the Kobe New Transit Rokko Liner, or about a 10-minute walk from Hanshin Railway Uozaki Station. The current museum was rebuilt after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake; the former museum building had been a relocated sake storehouse originally built in the early Edo period within the main residence grounds of the Hon-Kano family in Mikage, Kobe. The old museum collapsed in the earthquake, but the collection was carefully recovered piece by piece by hand and passed down to the present museum. The main highlight is the sake-brewing exhibition room, where tools inherited from the former museum let you feel the passion and tradition behind sake making. The original sweets “Sakagura Soft Cream” and the museum-limited “Sake Manju” are also extremely popular. At the tasting corner, you can sample seasonal sake, making this an irresistible spot for sake lovers.
