Shishiiwa Observatory
Shishiiwa Observatory is an observatory reached by climbing stairs from Shishiiwa Station on the Miyajima Ropeway, located at an elevation of 433 meters on Mount Misen. On a clear day, the view from Shishiiwa Observatory includes the islands scattered across the Seto Inland Sea, as well as Hiroshima City across the water, and the Kure and Etajima areas, plus even Shikoku in the distance. If you want to see the scenery more clearly, try using the installed telescopes and viewing scopes. The best time to visit Shishiiwa Observatory is especially in the morning, when the air is clearer. There is also a rock labeled "Shishiiwa," so try taking a commemorative photo in front of it with the sea as your backdrop. If you turn around away from the sea, you can also see the observatory at the summit of Mount Misen. It takes about 30 minutes on foot from Shishiiwa to the Mount Misen summit. At Miyajima Ropeway Shishiiwa Station, there is a hands-on workshop called "Heart-in Momiji" where you can grill heart-shaped momiji manju. On the 2nd floor, there is also a shop where you can buy "Heart-in Momiji"-shaped strap charms, so why not stop by on your way back?
