Innoshima Bridge

Innoshima Bridge is a 1,270-meter suspension bridge connecting Mukaishima and Innoshima, islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea. It spans the Shimanami Kaido route that runs from Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture to Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture. Counting from the Onomichi side, it is the second bridge on the route, and it opened in December 1983. Innoshima Bridge has a two-level structure: the upper deck is a roadway, while the lower deck is a dedicated path for pedestrians, bicycles, and more. You can even walk across and back in about one hour. On the upbound side of the Ohama Parking Area, located just before crossing from Innoshima to the Mukaishima side, there is a full-scale cable model of Innoshima Bridge on display. Right after crossing from Mukaishima to the Innoshima side, you’ll find the downbound side of Ohama Parking Area, and the two parking areas can also be accessed between each other via a pedestrian bridge. At the downbound Ohama Parking Area, you can also try curry made with hassaku, a citrus fruit that originated on Innoshima. From the downbound Ohama Parking Area to Innoshima Bridge, a walking path is maintained and takes about 5 minutes. At the foot of the bridge, there is also Innoshima Bridge Memorial Park, developed to commemorate the bridge’s completion, so relaxing while looking out at the bridge is another great way to enjoy the area.
