Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street
Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street is a Showa-retro shopping street that stretches about 1.2 km east from JR Onomichi Station. Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street is a collective name for five shopping streets, running in a straight line in this order starting near Onomichi Station: Ichibangai, Naka Shopping Street, Honmachi Center Street, Chuo Street, and Onomichi Street. There are about 400 shops in Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street, including Tax-Free stores. After shopping at a participating Tax-Free store, you can complete the procedure at the "Lump-Sum Tax-Free Counter" and receive a cashback for the tax-free amount. It’s also recommended to buy a canvas bag at participating shops such as "Onomichi Hanpu Bag Saikobo" or "Kobo Onomichi Hanpu." After your walk through the arcade, take a break at "Onomichi Roman Coffee," where you can enjoy house-roasted coffee. Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street is also home to the "Onomichi Fumiko Hayashi Memorial Museum," where you can visit the house once lived in by writer Fumiko Hayashi, best known for "Horo-ki." The alleys that intersect the shopping street are full of atmosphere too, so if you have time, why not wander around at your own pace?
