Senjojiki
Senjojiki is a highland plateau at an elevation of 333 meters, famous as a spot where you can enjoy a grand panoramic view. It is a vast grassland covering about 26,400 m², and because it was likened to being “as wide as 1,000 tatami mats,” it was named “Senjojiki” (literally, “one thousand tatami mats”). From Senjojiki, you can look out over islands in the Sea of Japan such as the Hagi Rokushima and Mishima, where the endlessly expanding ocean contrasts beautifully with the green grassland—creating a truly magnificent landscape. Because the peninsula’s summit area is constantly windy, you can also see wind turbines for wind-power generation. Every summer, the area becomes lively with events such as mountain bike endurance races, as well as people enjoying outdoor sports like hang gliding and families camping. Access to Senjojiki: by car, it takes about 60 minutes from the Chugoku Expressway “Mine IC” via National Route 191, or via Prefectural Route 281 and National Route 435. By public transportation, take a taxi about 25 minutes from JR San-in Main Line / Senzaki Branch / JR Mine Line “Nagatoshi Station,” or about 10 minutes from JR San-in Main Line “Nagato-Furuichi Station.”
