Hagi Museum
Opened in 2004, the Hagi Museum is a facility where you can learn about Hagi’s nature, history, climate, and culture. The building is designed with the motif of samurai residences. The museum is broadly composed of six exhibition rooms: the “Special Exhibition Room” with exhibitions that change by period; “TAN-Q Hagi Museum,” where you can enjoy missions as well as viewing, also changing by period; the “History Exhibition Room,” displaying excavated items from World Heritage components such as Hagi Castle Town and samurai residences; the “People and Nature Exhibition Room,” spotlighting various places around Hagi; and the “Takasugi Shinsaku Archive Room.” If you’re traveling in Hagi, this is a great first stop to visit. Access to the Hagi Museum: by car, take the Ogori-Hagi Road via Minehigashi JCT, then follow Prefectural Route 32, National Route 262, National Route 191, and Prefectural Route 295. By public transportation, take a bus from JR Sanyo Shinkansen “Shin-Yamaguchi Station” to “Higashi-Hagi Station” (about 1 hour 30 minutes). From Higashi-Hagi Station, it’s about 10 minutes by taxi, or about 30 minutes on foot. Buses to Higashi-Hagi Station also run from Tsuwano, Aome Ohashi, and Akiyoshido.
