Ashikaga Flower Park

Ashikaga Flower Park is a flower theme park located in Hasama-cho, Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture. Along with Ashikaga School and Kurita Museum, it is one of Ashikaga’s three major attractions. The park is famous for its wisteria, including the “Great Wisteria” (an enormous 600-tatami-mat canopy from a tree about 150 years old) and an 80m-long tunnel of white wisteria—both designated as Natural Monuments of Tochigi Prefecture. From mid-April to mid-May, when the Great Wisteria reaches its peak, the park holds the seasonal event “Wisteria Story: The Great Wisteria Festival,” drawing many visitors every year. Its ethereal scenery is also well known internationally: CNN selected it as the only destination from Japan in its “dream travel destinations.” From late October, when fewer flowers bloom, the illumination event “Garden of Flowers of Light” begins; it has been recognized by the Night View Convention Bureau as one of Japan’s Three Great Illuminations, and from 2016 to 2020 it ranked No. 1 nationwide for five consecutive years in the illumination category in a poll by certified night-view tourism professionals. The park divides the year into eight themed seasons, so you can enjoy a wide variety of flowers no matter when you visit.
